Terms of Service

1. Agreement
These terms form an agreement between you and askanswr ("Answr", "we") covering your use of the Answr browser extension and website. By installing the extension or purchasing a license you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1a. Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old to use Answr. It is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them — see section 10 of the Privacy Policy, which explains exactly how little the extension collects from anyone.
If you are under 18, you may use Answr only with the permission of a parent or guardian. Licenses must be purchased by an adult, who is responsible for the payment method used and for these terms. Our payment processor requires the cardholder to be an adult in any case.
If we learn that a licence is held by someone under 13, we may deactivate it and refund the unused portion.
2. What the service does
Answr captures the visible area of a browser tab when you ask it to, extracts text from that capture using recognition software that runs on your own device, and presents an answer with a step-by-step explanation.
3. Acceptable use — academic honesty
Answr is a study aid. You are responsible for using it in line with the rules of your school, college, or examining body. Many institutions restrict or prohibit the use of automated assistance in graded work, tests, and examinations.
- Do not use Answr where the rules that apply to you forbid outside assistance.
- Do not use it during a proctored or closed-book assessment.
- You, not us, are responsible for any academic consequences of how you use it.
You also agree not to resell, sublicense, or redistribute the service, and not to circumvent the licensing system.
4. Accuracy — no guarantee
Answers and explanations are generated automatically and may be wrong. Text recognition can misread what is on screen, particularly with small, low-contrast, or handwritten text. Check anything you rely on. Answr is not a substitute for teaching, and we make no warranty that answers are correct, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.
5. Licenses
A purchase grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license key. Sharing it publicly or distributing it may result in revocation without refund.
One license covers one device at a time. You may move your license between your own devices freely: signing out in the extension releases it immediately, and a device that has not been used for seven days releases it automatically. Moving a license between devices repeatedly within a short period is rate-limited to prevent a single key being shared among several people. Using Answr on two devices simultaneously requires two licenses.
To enforce this we store a random identifier generated by the extension on first run. It is not derived from your hardware or from any personal information, and it is used for no purpose other than the device limit described above. See the Privacy Policy for details.
The extension verifies your key with our servers when opened and once per day. If a subscription is cancelled, paused, or a payment fails, access is withdrawn automatically.
6. Plans, billing, and the introductory offer
- Free — $0. Three answers per day. No card is collected. It is a real subscription at a zero price, so it renews at $0 and you can cancel it like any other. We may change what the free plan includes, or withdraw it, at any time; that will never affect a plan you have paid for.
- Pro — $6.99 per month, recurring until cancelled.
- Premium — an introductory period of $1.49 for the first 7 days, charged at signup, then $12.99 per month beginning on day 8 and recurring until cancelled. This is not a free trial: the $1.49 is collected immediately and is not refunded once the introductory period has begun. Cancelling before day 8 prevents the $12.99 charge. If the introductory period ends and no payment can be taken, the subscription is cancelled and access ends.
- Lifetime — $89 once. No renewal.
Prices are in USD and exclude any tax that may apply. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. Payments are processed by Stripe.
6a. Unlimited use and fair use
"Unlimited" means we do not meter your normal use: there are no scan credits, no monthly allowance, and no counter running down. Reading the text off your screen runs on your own device and is not limited in any way.
We do operate automated abuse protection on the AI answering service, which runs on infrastructure we pay for per request. It is set far above what any individual can reach through ordinary study, and exists to stop automated or scripted use, shared credentials, and resale. If it is triggered you may be asked to retry shortly.
6b. What "Lifetime" means
"Lifetime" means the operational lifetime of the Answr service, not your own. A Lifetime licence never expires and never renews for as long as we operate the service. It does not oblige us to run the service forever, and we say so here rather than leaving it implied.
If we discontinue the service, Lifetime purchasers are treated as follows, measured from the date of purchase to the date we announce the shutdown:
- Held for 89 days or fewer — you receive a refund of 50% of what you paid.
- Held for 90 days or more — no refund is issued. By that point the licence has been in service long enough that the purchase is treated as fulfilled.
This is a floor, not a ceiling: it is what you are entitled to, and nothing stops us being more generous. Statutory rights that cannot be excluded — including the EU and UK 14-day right of withdrawal described in section 7 — continue to apply on top of this and are not replaced by it.
7. Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel at any time from the support page: paste your license key and choose Manage or cancel, which opens Stripe's billing portal.
Cancellation takes effect immediately. It stops all future charges, and your licence stops working at that moment. Access does not continue to the end of the period you have already paid for, and the unused part of that period is not refunded. If you cancel and then change your mind before the period would have ended, restarting the subscription in the billing portal restores your access at no further charge.
Lost license keys. Your key is displayed once, on the page shown immediately after payment. We cannot look it up, resend it, or issue a replacement, and losing it is not grounds for a refund. Save it somewhere durable at the time of purchase. This does not apply if you were charged and never received a key at all — contact support with your Stripe receipt and we will resolve it.
7a. Refund policy
The short version: if Answr does not work for you, tell us within 14 days and we will refund you in full. We would rather return your money than argue about it.
Within 14 days of purchase
A full refund, no reason required. Write to support.answr@gmail.com from the address you bought with, or include your Stripe receipt. We aim to process refunds within five working days; the money then takes as long as your bank takes.
This applies to every plan, including Lifetime, and it applies whether or not you have used the product. If you are in the EU or the UK you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for digital purchases; this policy is deliberately at least as generous as that right, so there is nothing for you to check or argue.
After 14 days
- Monthly plans (Pro, Premium). No refund of a period already started — cancel instead, and you will not be charged again. Cancelling takes effect immediately, as described above.
- Lifetime. No refund after 14 days, except on shutdown, which is covered separately in section 6b.
- The $1.49 Premium introductory week. Refundable within the 14-day window like anything else. Note that the introductory week itself is only 7 days, so cancelling before day 8 already prevents the $12.99 charge without needing a refund at all.
We refund regardless of the time limit if
- you were charged and never received a licence key;
- you were charged twice for the same thing;
- the service was unavailable for a prolonged period during a month you paid for;
- a renewal was taken after you had cancelled.
In those cases contact us with your Stripe receipt. You do not need to invoke this policy or quote a section number — just tell us what happened.
What is not refundable
Losing your licence key is not grounds for a refund, for the reason given above: we cannot look it up. Getting an answer you disagree with is not either — section 4 says plainly that answers are generated automatically and may be wrong, and that is the product you are buying. Nor is a chargeback filed without contacting us first: it costs us a fee on top of the refund, and we will deactivate the licence.
Nothing in this section limits rights you have under consumer law where you live, which apply whatever these terms say.
8. Availability
We aim to keep the service running but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The extension keeps working offline for a grace period after its last successful license check, so a short outage on our side does not lock you out.
9. Changes to the service and these terms
We may change features, plans, or prices. Price changes to an existing subscription take effect at the next renewal, and we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email to the address on your Stripe receipt before a higher price is charged. If you do not want the new price, cancel before it takes effect — several US states require exactly this, and it is the right way round in any case.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate a license for breach of these terms, chargeback abuse, or circumvention of the licensing system. You may stop using the service at any time.
11. Liability
Answr is a study aid that produces answers automatically, and section 4 says plainly that those answers may be wrong. You are responsible for checking anything you rely on. We are not responsible for academic outcomes — marks, grades, assessments, or the consequences of submitting work — nor for any decision you take on the strength of an answer.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data, or loss of opportunity. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Some liability cannot be excluded, and we do not try to. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded where you live. If you are a consumer your statutory rights stand whatever this section says — and in several countries a blanket exclusion would be unenforceable anyway, which is why this one is not blanket.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada, United States, and the courts of Washoe County, Nevada have jurisdiction over disputes arising from them.
If you are a consumer, this does not remove your home protections. Consumer-protection law where you live generally applies regardless of what a contract says, and you can normally bring a claim in your local courts. This clause settles which law applies where there is a genuine choice; it is not an attempt to make you travel.
Before any of that, please write to support.answr@gmail.com. Practically every dispute over a .99 subscription is a refund and an apology, and we would much rather resolve it that way.
